Hallyu, which literally means “Korean wave,” is a collective term used to refer to the phenomenal growth and popularity of the Korean culture and trends — which include music, movies, dramas, food, and fashion — not only in the Philippines but also in other countries. This so-called “Korean invasion” supposedly started in the late 1990s. ABS-CBN DocuCentral takes an in-depth look into this hallyu by dissecting what makes K-dramas, such as Goblin, and pop boy bands, such as BTS, well loved by most Filipinos. The full-length documentary also delves into other Korean influences in the Filipino culture: the love for Korean food, such as bibimbap and samgyeopsal; skin care routines and beauty products.
